Internet Solutions (IS), a pan-African telecommunications services provider, is providing a record breaking 2Gbps of bandwidth for rAge 2014, the largest consumer gaming and technology exhibition in Africa. The bandwidth is available to gamers in the IS sponsored LAN area.
“Last year gamers experienced uninterrupted 1Gbps Internet speed, courtesy of IS, and the speed is doubled for this year. The improved speed is possible because we have upgraded the fibre ring around the Coca-Cola Dome giving gamers faster Internet connectivity and an even better user-experience”.
“These speeds are not only available at rAge, IS is rolling out fibre infrastructure across Gauteng with 50 locations set to have the same speeds available by the end of this year”, said Greg Montjoie, Executive for Connectivity at IS.
At rAge 2013, 1,600 gamers simultaneously experienced Africa’s first true Gigabit Broadband service, with IS providing the record breaking speed of 1Gbps to the primary gaming LAN. The fibre-based Gigabit service provided by IS over the three days of the event delivered a real life average of 890Mbps with peak speeds reaching 975Mbps.
The overall volume of internet traffic served on the IS sponsored LAN at rAge 2013 was 26TB, which consisted of 21.3TB downloaded, and 4.6TB uploaded.
“IS understands the importance of having fast and reliable Internet connectivity for a social gaming event such as rAge, and with the enhancements made to our technology, we anticipate yet another successful event this year”, concluded Montjoie.
