An exhibitor not to be missed at the annual rAge Expo is NAG magazine. As the brains behind rAge, the folks at NAG work tirelessly behind the scenes to ensure that it’s the most awesome gaming event on the SA calendar.  This year NAG is going bigger and better than ever with the showcasing of the hottest local game developers, the grand finals of the NGL (NAG Gaming League), extreme overclocking demos, the hosting of the impressive NAG LAN and the merchandising of collectable NAG memorabilia.

rAge Expo 2014

To see top South African talent, visit the home_coded stand sponsored by Learn 3D and Celestial. Home_coded is an initiative that was first launched in NAG magazine in November 2012; home_coded’s first public showing was at rAge 2013.  The purpose of home_coded is to give the very best game developers in SA a vehicle to show off their work at the biggest gathering of gaming enthusiasts and geeks in Africa. The initiative also serves to demonstrate the very real career and business opportunities that exist in the gaming sector in this country.

If this isn’t enough to convince any sceptics that gaming isn’t big business, come along to witness the finals of the Aorus Corsair Dota 2 Clash being hosted by the NGL. The grand finals take place at the Rectron stand throughout the weekend with eight qualifying teams vying for first place and dibs on hardware prizes valued at over R275,000!  The finals take place on Sunday at 10h00, and what promises to be an octane fuelled prize-giving happens at 15h00.

Another highlight is the NAG Extreme Overclocking demos. For those not familiar with the term, think “Turbo” on a car!  Great overclocking sees pros pushing their computer components at a speed higher than that intended by the manufacturers. Like a souped-up ride, a souped-up PC requires a coolant – and when the overclocking demonstrations include the use of liquid nitrogen and/or dry ice – things get really chilling!

Overclocking champions Neo Sibeko aka “ShockG” and Andrew Roberts aka “DrWeez”, will be doing the overclocking using the latest NVIDIA Maxwell graphics cards and Intel X99/Z97 platforms, GIGABYTE SOC LN2 motherboards, GIGABYTE G-Power, Corsair Vengeance Pro memory and AX1500i PSUs. The demos take place on Friday at 11h30 and 15h00, on Saturday at 10h30 and 13h30 & 15h30 and on Sunday at 11h30 and 15h00 at Stand 53.

When thinking LAN – or local area network, one might be forgiven for just envisioning a bunch of office PCs linked by some magical entity. Not so. The NAG LAN is an extraordinary site to behold: the human face of the LAN is thousands of gamers engrossed in gaming glory.  The gamers eat and sleep gaming for 53 hours and nothing beats getting to rAge early and gazing into the LAN area only to wonder at the fun these guys and girls are having playing against one another.

The technical side of the LAN is just as impressive.

Internet Solutions will once again be providing high speed fibre to The Dome. The organisation will be improving on the 1Gbps connection provided in 2013 by upping connection speed to 2Gbps. On the Saturday of the NAG LAN, Internet Solutions will remove all restrictions on the line pushing beyond the 2Gbps mark to see just how fast their internet can really go.

Last but not least is the cool NAG merchandise that will be on offer.  Visitors will be able to get their hands on limited edition NAG mouse pads and exclusive zombie T-shirts, and limited edition zombie art prints at the NAG Merchandise Shoppe.

The NAG team looks forward to experiencing all that is rAge with you come 10 October!
