rAge and Ultimate Gaming Championships (UGCZA) have teamed up to host three fighting game tournaments over the weekend of rAge Digital Edition, including Dragon Ball FighterZ, Street Fighter V, and Tekken 7.

The rAge DRIVE Tournament will feature two days of qualifiers (Friday, 6 and Saturday, 7 November) and a grand final (Sunday, 8 November). The games that will be played are:

  • Dragon Ball FighterZ – Players battle it out as their favourite characters from the cult classic Anime series, Dragonball Z, featuring the super-powered Goku and a cast of other characters armed with fireballs and their fists.
  • Street Fighter V – This edition of the classic fighting game brings back well-known favourites like M Bison, Ryu, Chun-Li and others, including a few surprise characters that are unlocked through gameplay. The story takes place between the events of Street Fighter IV and Street Fighter III.
  • Tekken 7 – Since the 90’s, the Tekken franchise has maintained its status as a premier fighting game that upped the stakes for game companies with its strong cast of characters, combination moves and fast game play. Tekken 7 sees a cast of popular returning characters and a few new ones that add to the game’s flair.

A high stakes battle

rAge DRIVE entries are open to anyone brave enough to test their mettle against South Africa’s best players. And there are amazing prizes to be won for the ultimate fighters. Live commentary (shoutcasting) will up the hype during gameplay, boosting the spectator value and adding a large dose of humour to the tournament. rAge DRIVE will deliver game play that is easy for viewers to understand and highly addictive to watch, with multiple punches being thrown and special moves surprising players and spectators all weekend.

Umar Bradlow, Co-founder of UGCZA says, “The esports stage is growing in South Africa. We are already turning heads in the international arena. And throughout Africa, players from Ghana, Nigeria and the Ivory Coast, for example, are taking on big international players.

“As the world becomes more connected online, we’re likely to see massive growth in esports throughout the continent over the next five years. And rAge DRIVE is a great starting point for anyone who would like to see what it’s about. For established fans, there will be exciting gameplay and loads of suprises in store, too”.
